Canon Jenner Buck, husband of the late Dr Olivette Buck and the Vicar-in-Charge of St Charles Parish Church, Regent has been tested negative of the Ebola Virus, while one of the daughters is positive and all necessary treatment is being administered on her to save her life. The late Dr Buck was the Medical Superintendent at the Lumley Health Center where she has been very instrumental in saving lives. The 59 year-old had just one year left in the service before retirement.
However, the Vicarage where the family is living is under quarantine, as the Parish continues to pray for the Buck family as they go through this challenging period.
Last Sunday, the Anglican Bishop of Freetown, Rt Rev. Thomas Wilson, Dean of the Cathedral, Canon Emerson Thomas, Father of the Anglican Communion Rev.Dr Modupeh Taylor Pearce and Dr Victor Willoughby were all present at Sunday morning service at Regent, to console Parishioners for the challenges they are going through.
Bishop Thomas Wilson in his address to the congregation said, ‘we all should follow the advice the health workers are giving us and should listen to the Government as they have the earthly authority after God Almighty. He said Ebola is no respecter of persons and we all should be very careful and make sure we avoid contacts with people.
“If we follow all the preventive measures, surely God in his infinite wisdom will protect us, even if we made a little mistake.”
Bishop Wilson, said presently at the compound of Bishop’s Court, the Anglican Communion has granted space for an isolation center.
He said many people really don’t understand what is going on because they don’t see. He said the situation is very serious and people should take this virus seriously, if we have to eradicate it in the country.
He called on the Anglican Churches to pray for Canon Jenner Buck and family and for the entire country, so that the Ebola virus will be a thing of the past. The Dean of the Cathedral, Canon Emerson Thomas said they were on their way to Regent, when they received the news that Dr Buck had died.nHe said she served God and man diligently until her death and prayed that her soul will rest in peace.
He called on all St Charles Parishioners to support the family and continue to pray for them, as they go through these trying times. Rev. Dr Modupeh Taylor-Pearce said he had known Dr Buck since he was teaching her and she has been very strong in the Lord. He called on all Sierra Leoneans to continue to pray for our doctors and the Government, so they will have more wisdom in tackling this dangerous virus. He said he was proud of Dr Buck, who worked tirelessly in her community, the Church and in the hospital until her death.
He prayed for the family and said we must be hopeful that God will destroy this virus in the country. Dr Victor Willoughby was called on to give the Church a lecture on how to protect and prevent ourselves. He called on all to beware because Ebola had no cure and is no respecter of persons. He also called on the Government to furnish doctors with protective gears and other materials, so that they will be able to work in a safe environment.
